Home Work Policy

Purpose

At Pal Buddhist School, we view homework as a valuable opportunity for our students to:

  • deepen and review their learning from the classroom.

  • take time to reflect on and integrate new concepts.

  • nurture independent research and learning skills.

  • develop strong organisational habits.

  • cultivate effective study practices.

Senior School Homework Expectations

In our Senior School, we assign homework regularly across most subjects, and we ask that students complete it by the due date.

Sometimes, homework time will be dedicated to preparing assignments or projects. When this happens, we encourage students to:

  • work on a small portion of the task each evening, or

  • plan a larger block of time over the weekend.

Students are asked to maintain their regular homework and study schedule for all other subjects while working on assignments or projects.

Homework Time Guidelines

We offer the following guidelines for the amount of time students might spend on homework each evening:

  • Years 7-10: approximately 2.5 hours of homework or study per night, five nights a week (roughly 25-30 minutes per subject studied that day).

  • Years 11-12: at least 3 hours of homework or study per night, five nights a week (at least 30 minutes per subject studied that day).

We also encourage students to allocate extra study time, particularly on weekends, when preparing for examinations or assessment tasks, to review past work and practice questions.

Further Expectations

We invite all students to read for pleasure.

Students are asked to record homework details in their student diary.

If a student is unable to complete homework due to illness, family commitments, or another valid reason, we ask that a parent or guardian provide a brief note in the student's diary.

The Role of Parents/Guardians

Parents and guardians play a crucial role in supporting their child's success.

We suggest they provide a quiet, well-lit space for their child to complete homework.

Supervision and assistance with homework are valuable, especially in the younger years.

As students grow, we encourage the development of independent learning skills, and less supervision may be needed.

Academic Integrity

Homework, assignments, projects, and set tasks are designed to support effective learning and must be the student's own work.
